- 2 cups milk

- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 3 medium apples (peeled, cored, and sliced, preferably Granny Smith)
- 1 cup caramel sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Arrange the slices of thick-cut bread in a baking dish in a single layer.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs, milk, vanilla extract, and ground cinnamon until smooth.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread slices, ensuring they are well soaked, and let it sit for 15 minutes.
- Toss the sliced apples with brown sugar and melted butter.
- Layer the apples over the soaked bread in the baking dish.
- Drizzle half of the caramel sauce over the apples.
- If using, sprinkle the chopped nuts on top.
- Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Serve warm, drizzled with remaining caramel sauce.
Notes
Use day-old bread for best texture. Customize your apples or add in other fruits for variety. This dish can be prepared the night before.
