Description

A delicious fusion of traditional babka and baklava, featuring flaky layers filled with nuts and honey.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 packet (2 1/4 teaspoons) active dry yeast
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup warm milk
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pistachios
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup honey (for topping)
  • Chopped nuts (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Mix the dry ingredients: In a large bowl, combine flour, sugar, yeast, and salt.
  2. Combine wet ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk warm milk, melted butter, and eggs until smooth.
  3. Form the dough: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ones and mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough: Turn the dough out and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth.
  5. First rise: Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for about 30 minutes.
  6. Prepare the filling: Combine chopped nuts, honey, and ground cinnamon in a bowl.
  7. Roll the dough: Roll out the dough into a rectangle, brush with melted butter, and spread the nut filling.
  8. Shape the babka: Roll the dough tightly, cut it in half lengthwise, and twist the halves together.
  9. Second rise: Place the twisted dough into a greased loaf pan and let rise for another 30 minutes.
  10. Bake: Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 30 minutes until golden brown.
  11. Glaze and cool: Drizzle warm babka with honey and let cool slightly before slicing.
