Description

These visually stunning candy apples feature a glossy black and purple candy coating, balancing sweetness and spice for an enchanting Halloween treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup light corn syrup
  • 0.5 cup water
  • 0.5 teaspoon black gel food coloring
  • 0.25 teaspoon purple gel food coloring
  • 0.5 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon cinnamon extract (optional)
  • 6 candy apple sticks

Instructions

  1. In a heavy-bottomed saucepan, combine the granulated sugar, light corn syrup, and water. Place over medium heat and stir gently until dissolved.
  2. Increase heat to medium-high and bring to a boil without stirring until it reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage).
  3. Remove from heat and stir in black gel food coloring, purple gel food coloring, vanilla extract, and optional cinnamon extract.
  4. Tilt the saucepan and dip the apples in the hot candy mixture, swirling to coat.
  5. Transfer dipped apples onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and cool until the candy coating is firm.

Notes

Ensure apples are washed and completely dry for best results. Consider adding edible glitter or other colors for variations.
