Description

A warm and nostalgic dessert that combines rich flavors and a decadent bourbon sauce, perfect for gatherings or cozy nights in.


Ingredients

  • 1 loaf of French bread (about 12 cups cut into 1-inch cubes)
  • 1 ½ cups of whole milk
  • 1 ½ cups of heavy cream
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup of granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon of salt
  • ¼ cup of melted butter
  • ½ cup of bourbon (for the sauce; optional in the pudding mixture)
  • 1 cup of heavy cream (for the sauce)
  • ½ cup of unsalted butter
  • 1 cup of brown sugar (packed)
  • ¼ cup of bourbon
  • 1 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Cut the loaf of French bread into cubes and let it sit out for a few hours or overnight to dry out.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together milk, heavy cream, eggs, sugar, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt until smooth.
  3. Place the bread cubes in a greased 9×13 baking dish and pour the custard mixture over the bread, allowing it to soak for at least 15-20 minutes.
  4. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake for 45-50 minutes until golden brown.
  5. For the bourbon sauce, combine heavy cream, unsalted butter, and brown sugar over medium heat. Simmer for 5 minutes, then add bourbon, vanilla, and a pinch of salt, simmering for another 2 minutes.
  6. Let the bread pudding cool slightly before serving warm, drenching each slice in bourbon sauce.

Notes

Serve with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream for an added treat.
