Description
These Cheese Filled Rolls are soft, pillowy rolls filled with gooey cheese and aromatic onion, reminiscent of childhood treats from the oven.
Ingredients
Scale
- 3/4 cup lukewarm milk
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 2 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
- 2 large eggs
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup finely processed young cheese
- 1/2 cup cheese spread
- 1 finely sliced yellow onion
Instructions
- Activate the yeast: Combine lukewarm milk with honey and yeast. Stir gently and let it rest for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Build the dough: Add a beaten egg to the yeast mixture, then stir in melted butter, flour, and salt. Knead for 10-12 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- First rise: Cover the bowl with a damp cloth and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
- Prepare cheese filling: Process the young cheese and cheese spread until silky smooth. Divide into six portions.
- Create onion topping: Slice the yellow onion and mix it with grated cheese.
- Shape the dough: Deflate the risen dough, divide it into six portions, and shape each into a smooth ball.
- Form filled rolls: Roll each ball into a circle, place a spoonful of cheese filling in the center, and seal it by pinching the edges together.
- Final shaping: Flatten each filled ball to about 3/4 inch thick.
- Prepare for baking: Arrange on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, brush with egg wash, and add onion cheese mixture on top.
- Second rise: Allow to rise uncovered for another 30 minutes.
- Bake to perfection: Preheat oven to 400°F, then bake for 12-18 minutes until golden brown.
