Description

A comforting and nostalgic dish that combines cheeseburgers and tater tots into a delightful casserole. Perfect for busy weeknights or family gatherings.


Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup diced onion
  • 3/4 cup ketchup
  • 1/4 cup yellow mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon Kosher salt
  • 4 ounces cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 ounces Monterey Jack cheese, shredded
  • 1620 ounces tater tots
  • Pickles for garnish
  • Chopped scallions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400 degrees Fahrenheit.
  2. Heat a large, oven-safe skillet over medium heat with a drizzle of oil.
  3. Add the ground beef and diced onion. Cook until the meat is browned and no longer pink.
  4. Drain any excess fat.
  5. Stir in ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  6. Top the mixture with half of the shredded cheese.
  7. Arrange the tater tots over the cheese layer.
  8. Bake for 20-25 minutes, until tater tots are golden brown.
  9. Sprinkle the remaining cheese on top and return to the oven for an additional 5 minutes.
  10. Garnish with pickles and chopped scallions before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute ground turkey or chicken and use low-sugar ketchup. Frozen tater tots work perfectly for this recipe.
