- 12 oz (340 g) pasta of your choice (e.g., penne, fettuccine)
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 (14 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon dried basil
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Fresh basil leaves for garnishing
- Grated Parmesan cheese for serving
Instructions
- Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil and cook the pasta according to the package instructions until al dente. Drain and set aside.
- In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and sauté until soft, about 3-4 minutes.
- Add minced garlic to the skillet and sauté for another minute until fragrant.
- Pour in the crushed tomatoes and stir in the dried basil and oregano. Season with salt and pepper. Let the mixture simmer for about 10 minutes.
- Stir in the heavy cream and mix well until heated through.
- Add grated Parmesan cheese and stir until melted.
- Toss in the cooked pasta until well coated in the sauce.
- Transfer to serving plates, garnish with fresh basil and additional Parmesan cheese. Serve hot.
Notes
To light the dish, consider using whole wheat pasta or substituting heavy cream with coconut milk.
