Ingredients

  • 500 g boneless chicken breast, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Vegetable oil for frying
  • 2 tablespoons sesame oil
  • 4 to 5 dried red chilies, cut in halves
  • 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
  • 1/2 red bell pepper, diced
  • 1/2 green bell pepper, diced
  • 1 onion, sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 2 green onions, chopped for garnish
  • Sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a bowl, mix the chicken pieces with soy sauce, rice vinegar, and a pinch of salt. Let it marinate for at least 20 minutes.
  2. In another bowl, whisk together the egg, cornstarch, flour, salt, and pepper.
  3. Heat vegetable oil in a deep pan over medium heat.
  4. Dip the marinated chicken pieces into the batter, ensuring each piece is well-coated.
  5. Fry the chicken pieces in batches for 5-7 minutes until golden brown and crispy, then drain on paper towels.
  6. In a separate pan, heat sesame oil over medium heat.
  7. Add the dried red chilies, garlic, and ginger; sauté until fragrant.
  8. Add the diced peppers and onion, sautéing until slightly softened.
  9. Stir in soy sauce, oyster sauce, ketchup, and sugar, mixing well.
  10. Toss the fried chicken pieces in the sauce mixture until coated.
  11. Garnish with chopped green onions and sesame seeds before serving.

Notes

For a healthier alternative, use low-sugar sauces and olive oil for frying.
