Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips plus 2 tablespoons for topping
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  • 1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
  • 1 and 1/2 cups mashed bananas
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons hot water

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
  4. Mix in 3/4 cup of chocolate chips.
  5. In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
  6. Add eggs one at a time, then mix in yogurt, bananas, and vanilla extract.
  7. Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
  8. Pour in hot water and mix until smooth.
  9. Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.

  11. Cool for 1 to 2 hours in the pan before slicing.

Notes

Allowing the bread to cool properly will enhance the texture and flavor.
