Ingredients

- 1 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened natural cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips plus 2 tablespoons for topping
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened to room temperature
- 3/4 cup granulated sugar
- 2 large eggs, at room temperature
- 1/4 cup plain yogurt or sour cream, at room temperature
- 1 and 1/2 cups mashed bananas
- 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
- 2 tablespoons hot water
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Grease a 9×5 inch loaf pan with butter or non-stick spray.
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Mix in 3/4 cup of chocolate chips.
- In another bowl, beat butter and sugar until smooth and creamy.
- Add eggs one at a time, then mix in yogurt, bananas, and vanilla extract.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet mixture, mixing until just combined.
- Pour in hot water and mix until smooth.
- Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and sprinkle with remaining chocolate chips.
- Bake for 60 to 65 minutes, covering with foil halfway through if browning too quickly.
- Cool for 1 to 2 hours in the pan before slicing.
Notes
Allowing the bread to cool properly will enhance the texture and flavor.
