Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (177°C).
  2. In a deep dish, place the pieces of butter and allow it to melt in the oven while it preheats.
  3. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and salt until combined.
  4. Gradually add the milk, vanilla, and almond extract to the dry mix, whisking until smooth.
  5. Carefully remove the heated pan from the oven and spread the cherries over the melted butter in an even layer.
  6. Pour the batter evenly over the cherries, ensuring they are well covered.
  7. Sprinkle the top with coarse sugar if desired.
  8. Bake for 55–60 minutes, until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.
