Ingredients

  • 8 oz pasta (preferably whole grain)
  • 2 cups broccoli florets
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Cook the pasta according to package instructions in a pot of salted boiling water for al dente texture.
  2. In the last three minutes of cooking, add the broccoli florets into the pasta water.
  3. Drain the pasta and broccoli, saving a cup of pasta water.
  4. In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium heat, then add minced garlic and red pepper flakes until fragrant.
  5. Add the drained pasta and broccoli to the skillet and toss. Incorporate reserved pasta water if needed.
  6. Season with salt and pepper. Optionally, sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese before serving.

Notes
