Ingredients
Scale
- 12 oz linguine or spaghetti
- 1 lb ground beef (85% lean recommended)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 large onion, thinly sliced
- 5 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt and black pepper to taste
- 1/2 cup reserved pasta water
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- Fresh parsley, chopped
- Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
Instructions
- Boil the Pasta: In a large pot of salted water, bring to a vigorous boil, add pasta and cook until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water, then drain.
- Brown the Beef: In a large skillet, heat olive oil over medium-high heat. Add ground beef, season with salt and pepper, and cook until browned (6-8 minutes). Remove and set aside.
- Caramelize the Onions: In the same skillet, reduce heat to medium, add 2 tablespoons of butter and sliced onions. Cook for about 10-12 minutes until caramelized.
- Add Flavors: Stir in minced garlic and optional red pepper flakes. Sauté for 1-2 minutes until fragrant.
- Combine Ingredients: Add remaining butter back to skillet with cooked beef and pour in reserved pasta water, mixing for a silky sauce.
- Toss the Pasta: Introduce drained pasta to the skillet, tossing to coat in the sauce. Simmer for 1-2 minutes.
- Finish and Serve: Turn off the heat, garnish with parsley and optional Parmesan. Serve hot.
Notes
Consider adding fresh herbs like basil or oregano for added flavor. For a creamy version, stir in cream or sour cream.
