Instructions
- In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
- Cream the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the egg, vanilla extract, and almond extract to the butter mixture and mix well.
- Gradually add the dry mixture to the wet mixture and stir until a dough forms.
- Divide the dough into two portions, adding pink food coloring to one and orange to the other, kneading until evenly distributed.
- Wrap each portion in plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 60 minutes.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
- Roll out the dough to about 1/4 inch thickness on a floured surface.
- Cut out heart shapes with a cookie cutter and place them on the baking sheets.
- Bake for 8 to 10 minutes, until edges are light golden.
- Cool the cookies on wire racks completely.
- Decorate with royal icing and let it set. Add edible glitter or sprinkles if desired.
- Let the decorated cookies dry completely before serving or packaging.
