- 1 block (14 oz) firm tofu, pressed and drained
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1/4 cup Dijon mustard
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (panko or regular)
- 1/2 cup cornstarch
- Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
Instructions
- Press the tofu for at least 30 minutes to remove excess moisture.
- Cut the pressed tofu into strips about 1 inch wide and 4 inches long.
- In a bowl, mix honey, Dijon mustard, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, garlic powder, onion powder, and black pepper to create the marinade.
- Marinate the tofu strips in the mixture for at least 30 minutes.
- Set up a breading station with cornstarch in one bowl and breadcrumbs in another.
- Coat the marinated tofu first in cornstarch, then dip back into the marinade, and finish by coating in breadcrumbs.
- Heat oil in a skillet over medium heat and fry the tenders for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Drain on paper towels and serve warm with additional honey mustard sauce if desired.
Notes
Press tofu well to ensure a firmer texture. Experiment with different dipping sauces for variety.
