Description

A savory twist on traditional French toast, infused with Indian spices, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 slices of thick white or whole wheat bread
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup whole milk (or almond milk)
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped onion
  • 2 tbsp chopped cilantro
  • 1/4 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1/2 tsp cumin powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a medium-sized bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until well combined. Add turmeric, cumin, salt, pepper, onion, and cilantro.
  2. Dip a slice of bread into the egg mixture, ensuring it’s well-coated but not soaked. Repeat for all slices.
  3. Melt a tablespoon of butter in a skillet over medium heat.
  4. Cook the soaked bread slices in the skillet until golden brown, about 3-4 minutes on each side.
  5. Serve hot, garnished with additional cilantro or a side of tangy green chutney.

Notes

Use bread that is slightly stale for the best texture. Adjust cooking time based on your stove’s heat levels.
