- 4 skinless, boneless chicken breasts
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 1/4 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/4 cup rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon minced garlic
- 1 tablespoon minced fresh ginger
- 2 tablespoons sesame oil
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 cup cold water
- 2 tablespoons cornstarch
- 1/4 cup sliced green onions
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
Instructions
- In a medium mixing bowl, combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, rice vinegar, honey, minced garlic, minced ginger, sesame oil, and crushed red pepper flakes. Stir well until the sugar is dissolved.
- Place the chicken breasts in a large resealable plastic bag, pour half of the marinade over, seal, and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
- Preheat the grill to medium-high heat and oil the grill grates.
- Remove the chicken from the marinade, discard the used marinade, and grill the chicken for 6-8 minutes per side until cooked through.
- In a small saucepan, pour the reserved marinade, whisk together cold water and cornstarch, stir into the sauce, and bring to a boil until thickened.
- Let the chicken rest for a few minutes, then drizzle the thickened teriyaki sauce over the top and garnish with sliced green onions and toasted sesame seeds.
Notes
For a healthier option, use low-sodium soy sauce and coconut sugar.
