- 4 large sweet potatoes
- 1 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup butter
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel and slice the sweet potatoes into round discs.
- In a large pot, melt the butter over medium heat, then add the brown sugar, water, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt, stirring until combined.
- Add the sweet potatoes to the pot and gently mix to coat them in the syrup.
- Transfer the sweet potatoes and syrup into a baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45 minutes to 1 hour, occasionally basting with the syrup.
- Once done, remove from the oven and stir in the vanilla extract before serving.
Notes
For added flavor, use fresh spices and consider adding pecans or substituting half of the brown sugar with maple syrup.
