Description
Soft, fluffy rolls with a slightly sweet flavor, perfect for family meals and gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 tablespoon warm water (about 105-115°F)
- 6 tablespoons granulated sugar (divided)
- 1 packet (2 ¼ teaspoons) active dry yeast
- 1 cup warm whole milk (about 105-115°F)
- 7 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted, divided)
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1 large room temperature egg
- 3 ½ cups bread flour
- ¼ cup softened unsalted butter (for spreading)
- 2 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
- 2 tablespoons honey
- ½ teaspoon cinnamon
Instructions
- Combine warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a small bowl. Sprinkle the yeast over and let sit for 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- In a large bowl, whisk together warm milk, melted butter (reserve some), salt, remaining sugar, and egg until smooth.
- Add the frothy yeast mixture to the milk mixture and stir until combined.
- Gradually add bread flour, one cup at a time, mixing until a soft dough forms, then knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place dough in an oiled bowl, cover, and let rise in a warm place for 1-2 hours until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and shape into small balls. Place on a greased baking sheet and let rise again for 30 minutes to 1 hour.
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and bake rolls for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.
- For cinnamon honey butter, mix softened butter, confectioners’ sugar, honey, and cinnamon until creamy. Serve warm with rolls.
Notes
Ensure the water is at the right temperature for yeast activation and don’t rush the kneading process for optimal texture.
