Description

A delightful and comforting dish that combines lean ground turkey with sweet apples for a unique twist on classic chili.


Ingredients

  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 onion, diced
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 tbsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 2 apples, chopped (preferably sweet varieties like Gala or Fuji)
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (15 oz) kidney beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 cup chicken broth

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add the diced onion and minced garlic, sauté until soft and translucent, about 5 minutes.
  2. Add the ground turkey to the pot and cook until browned, breaking it into smaller pieces, about 5–7 minutes.
  3. Stir in the spices: chili powder, cumin, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper, toasting for about 1 minute.
  4. Mix in the chopped apples, drained beans, crushed tomatoes, and chicken broth. Stir well to combine.
  5. Bring the mixture to a boil, then reduce the heat to low and let it simmer for 25–30 minutes.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning before serving.

Notes

For added flavor, consider garnishing with fresh cilantro or a dollop of sour cream. Leftovers store well in the refrigerator for up to 4 days and freeze beautifully.
