Description

Indulgent warm pretzel bites filled with gooey melted cheese, perfect for snacking or entertaining.


Ingredients

  • 1 ½ cups warm water (110°F to 115°F)
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons active dry yeast
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup baking soda
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • Coarse sea salt (for sprinkling)
  • 2 cups shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or a combination)
  • ½ cup cream cheese (softened)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • Fresh parsley (for garnish, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a small mixing bowl, combine warm water, sugar, and yeast and let sit for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, mix flour and salt, then add the yeast mixture and combine until a dough forms.
  3. Knead the dough on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
  5. Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C) and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.
  6. In a pot, bring 10 cups of water and baking soda to a rolling boil.
  7. Once risen, turn out the dough onto a floured surface and divide into pieces, rolling each into a ball.
  8. Boil each pretzel bite in the water for 30 seconds on each side and then place on baking sheets.
  9. Brush with beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
  10. Bake for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. Meanwhile, mix the shredded cheese, softened cream cheese, and garlic powder (if using) in a bowl and microwave until melted.
  12. Serve warm with melted cheese for dipping or drizzled on top.
