Description

A delightful pastry marrying flaky puff pastry with a creamy filling, topped with sweet cherry pie filling.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets frozen puff pastry sheets
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon almond extract
  • 1 can (21 ounces) cherry pie filling
  • 1 large egg, room temperature
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • Confectioners’ sugar for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and line 2 large baking sheets with parchment paper.
  2. Lay the puff pastry sheets on a lightly floured surface and cut each into 6 rectangles.
  3. Arrange the puff pastries on the lined baking sheets, leaving about 1 inch between each.
  4. Poke a few holes into the middle of each pastry, leaving a 1/2 inch perimeter.
  5. In a bowl, stir together cream cheese, sugar, and almond extract until combined.
  6. Spread 1 tablespoon of the cream cheese mixture in the center of each pastry.
  7. Top with 2 tablespoons of cherry pie filling.
  8. In a bowl, whisk together egg and water. Brush onto the edges of each pastry.
  9. Bake for 15-18 minutes or until golden and flaky.
  10. Dust with confectioners’ sugar and allow to cool slightly before serving.

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute sugar with a natural alternative and use dairy-free cream cheese.
