Description

Delicious and nostalgic chocolate chip cookie bars that are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 large egg yolk (at room temperature)
  • 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • Optional sprinkle of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a medium bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until no lumps remain. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  5. Fold in the chocolate chips.
  6. Transfer the dough to the prepared baking pan and press it into an even layer. Optionally sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
  7. Bake for 30-34 minutes until lightly browned on the sides.
  8. Allow bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least an hour before cutting into squares.

Notes

For a softer texture, do not overbake. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 1 week.
