Delicious and nostalgic chocolate chip cookie bars that are easy to make and perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients

- 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 and 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter (melted and slightly cooled)
- 1 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 large egg yolk (at room temperature)
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Optional sprinkle of flaky sea salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F and line a 9-inch square baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, cornstarch, and salt. Set aside.
- In a medium bowl, whisk the melted butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar together until no lumps remain. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing until combined.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
- Fold in the chocolate chips.
- Transfer the dough to the prepared baking pan and press it into an even layer. Optionally sprinkle with flaky sea salt.
- Bake for 30-34 minutes until lightly browned on the sides.
- Allow bars to cool in the pan on a wire rack for at least an hour before cutting into squares.
Notes
For a softer texture, do not overbake. Store leftovers at room temperature for up to 1 week.
