  • 4 bone-in, skin-on chicken thighs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • Olive oil spray for coating

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the buttermilk and hot sauce.
  2. Add the chicken thighs, ensuring they are fully submerged. Cover and refrigerate for at least 2 hours or overnight.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper.
  4. Preheat the air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  5. Remove the chicken from the buttermilk mixture, letting the excess drip off, and dredge each thigh in the flour mixture.
  6. Spray the air fryer basket with olive oil spray.
  7. Place the coated chicken thighs in the basket, ensuring they are not overcrowded.
  8. Spray the tops of the thighs with olive oil spray again.
  9. Cook for 20-25 minutes, flipping halfway, until golden brown and the internal temperature reaches 165°F (74°C).
  10. Let the chicken rest for 5 minutes before serving.

Notes

For optimal flavor, marinate the chicken overnight. You can also make this dish dairy-free by using plant-based milk mixed with lemon juice.
