- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 cup semi-sweet or dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon peppermint extract (optional)
- 1 cup mini marshmallows (optional)
- 1 cup crushed candy canes
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Beat in the eggs one at a time, then mix in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt. Gradually combine this with the wet ingredients until just mixed.
- Fold in the chocolate chips and mini marshmallows (if using).
- Drop rounded balls of dough onto a lined baking sheet.
- Bake for 10-12 minutes, until edges are set but centers are slightly underbaked.
- Allow cookies to cool on the sheet for 5 minutes before transferring to a wire rack.
Notes
For a healthier version, use whole wheat flour or swap in coconut oil for the butter. Experiment with flavored extracts or add nuts for variation.
