Description

Enjoy the warmth and comfort of homemade naan, perfect for wrapping around curries or enjoying with yogurt.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 1/4 cups All Purpose Flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon Baking Soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon Salt
  • 2 teaspoons Sugar
  • 1/4 cup Plain Yogurt
  • 1/2 cup Warm Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil (plus extra for greasing)
  • Butter or Ghee (for brushing, optional)
  • Chopped Garlic or Cilantro or Sesame Seeds (for topping, optional)

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
  2. Make a well in the center of the dry ingredients. Add yogurt, warm milk, and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms.
  3. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead for 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a damp cloth, and let it rest in a warm place for 1-2 hours.
  5. Preheat a skillet over medium-high heat.
  6. Divide the risen dough into 6 equal portions and roll each into a ball.
  7. Roll out each ball into a thin oval or round shape about 1/4 inch thick.
  8. Cook the naan on the skillet for 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown and puffed.
  9. Brush with melted butter or ghee and sprinkle with toppings if desired.
  10. Serve warm with your favorite curries or dips.

Notes

For a healthier version, consider using whole wheat flour or Greek yogurt.
