Description

Delightful holiday cookies featuring a festive red-and-white swirl and a refreshing peppermint flavor, topped with crushed candy canes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon peppermint extract
  • Red food coloring
  • Crushed candy canes, for topping

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Cream together the unsalted butter and powdered sugar until smooth and fluffy.
  3. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract until well combined.
  4. In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually mix this into the creamed mixture until a dough forms.
  5. Divide the dough into two halves. Add peppermint extract and red food coloring to one half and mix until color is even.
  6. Roll each colored dough into ropes and twist them together to form a candy cane shape on a baking sheet.
  7. Bake for 9-11 minutes, or until set but not browned.
  8. Cool on a wire rack and sprinkle with crushed candy canes before serving.

Notes

For more mint flavor, increase the peppermint extract. Drizzle with melted white chocolate for added festivity.
