Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup warm water (110–115 °F)
- 1 teaspoon active dry yeast
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1/3 cup extra virgin olive oil
- 2 teaspoons minced garlic
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 medium yellow onions
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon unsalted butter
- 1 pound ground beef
- 3 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 cup shredded mild cheddar cheese
- 2/3 cup mayonnaise
- 2 tablespoons ketchup
- 2 teaspoons freshly chopped parsley
Instructions
- In a large bowl, combine warm water, active dry yeast, and sugar. Let it stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
- Mix together olive oil, minced garlic, and kosher salt. Set aside half of this mixture.
- Combine half of the olive oil mixture with the foamy yeast mixture. Gradually add in the flour, stirring until a soft dough forms.
- Transfer the dough to a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 hour, until doubled in size.
- While dough is rising, heat olive oil and butter in a skillet. Sauté onions for 15-20 minutes until caramelized.
- Add ground beef to the skillet, cook until brown, then mix in Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.
- In a bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, ketchup, chopped parsley, and minced garlic for the creamy sauce.
- Preheat the oven to 450 °F. Grease a skillet with the reserved olive oil mixture. Press the risen dough into the skillet.
- Bake crust for 12 minutes until slightly golden. Spread half the sauce over the crust, add beef and onions, then top with mozzarella and cheddar.
- Bake for an additional 13-15 minutes until cheese is bubbly and golden.
- Drizzle remaining sauce over the focaccia, garnish with parsley, slice, and serve warm.
Notes
For a healthier twist, consider using whole wheat flour or lean ground turkey. Allow the dough to rise adequately for the best texture.
