Description

A warm and indulgent casserole dripping with pecan flavor, creamy custard, and maple syrup, perfect for brunch.


Ingredients

  • 1 (16-oz.) loaf French bread, sliced into 1/2-inch-thick slices
  • 8 large whole eggs
  • 1 2/3 cups heavy cream
  • 1 1/2 cups whole milk
  • 6 Tbsp. granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/2 tsp. kosher salt
  • 10 Tbsp. unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 3 cups raw pecan halves
  • 6 Tbsp. corn syrup
  • Maple syrup, for serving

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F and shingle the slices of French bread in a 13 x 9-inch baking dish.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together eggs, cream, milk, sugar, vanilla, and salt. Pour over bread slices, pressing down to soak for 15 minutes.
  3. In a separate bowl, whisk together melted butter, brown sugar, and corn syrup, then fold in pecans. Spoon mixture over the bread.
  4. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes until golden and set. Serve warm with maple syrup.

Notes

Can be prepared the night before. Serve with seasonal fruits or ice cream for a special treat.
