Description

A delightful blend of fluffy bread and juicy blueberries, soaked in a creamy custard, perfect for breakfast or brunch.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 loaf of bread (challah or brioche)
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 cups milk (whole milk recommended)
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 2 cups fresh blueberries
  • 1/4 cup butter (for greasing)
  • Powdered sugar for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
  2. Cut the bread into cubes and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
  3. Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a bowl until combined.
  4. Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold in the blueberries.
  5. Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
  7. Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, dust with powdered sugar if desired.

Notes

For best results, use day-old bread to absorb the custard. You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it.
