- 1 loaf of bread (challah or brioche)
- 4 large eggs
- 2 cups milk (whole milk recommended)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 cups fresh blueberries
- 1/4 cup butter (for greasing)
- Powdered sugar for serving (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with butter.
- Cut the bread into cubes and place them evenly in the prepared baking dish.
- Whisk together eggs, milk, sugar, vanilla extract, and cinnamon in a bowl until combined.
- Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes and gently fold in the blueberries.
- Cover the dish with aluminum foil and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 15-20 minutes until the top is golden brown.
- Let it cool for a few minutes before serving, dust with powdered sugar if desired.
Notes
For best results, use day-old bread to absorb the custard. You can prepare the casserole the night before and refrigerate it.
