Description

A delightful fusion of Sloppy Joe goodness and grilled cheese comfort, perfect for any meal or gathering.


Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup ketchup
  • 2 tbsp yellow mustard
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 8 oz sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 4 slices sourdough or Texas toast
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • Salt & Pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the pound of lean ground beef along with the finely chopped onion. Cook until the beef is browned and the onions are translucent, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Drain excess fat from the skillet, then add ketchup, yellow mustard, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Stir and let it simmer for about 5 minutes.
  3. Spread butter on one side of each slice of bread.
  4. On the unbuttered side of two slices, layer shredded cheddar cheese, followed by the Sloppy Joe mixture, and another layer of cheese. Place another slice of bread on top, butter side out.
  5. In the skillet, grill the sandwiches over medium heat for about 3-4 minutes on each side until golden brown and cheese is melted.
  6. Remove from skillet, slice diagonally, and serve hot.

Notes

Consider using a cast-iron skillet for even heat, and feel free to mix cheeses for different flavors.
